Introduction: The market for initial public offerings (IPOs) boomed in the later half of the 20th century. More than 2,400 US companies issued IPOs from 1996 through 2000. From executives to entrepreneurs, and employees to employers, every one dreamed of making fast bucks on the Wall Street. Come, dot-com crash, IPOs lost the sheen. Many investors lost their lifelong earnings and felt cheated. On top of this, a slew of corporate scandals like the Enron scandal shook the little confidence that the investor had in the ‘guysmanaging big business’. However, forty-six companieswent public in the fourth quarter of 2003, compared with just 27 during the first ninemonths of 2003, according to data released by the NationalVenture CapitalAssociation.With Google and host of other companies planning to go public, 2004 was expected to be even better for IPOs. |
